و أرسل النبي صلى الله عليه و سلم كتابه الى المقوقس في السنة السـابعة للهجرة و تم فتح مصر في سنة 20 للهجرة على يد الصحابي عمرو بن العاص رضي الله عنه.

"بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
من محمد عبد الله ورسوله الى المقوقس عظيم القبط،
سلام على من اتبع الهدى، أما بعد، فاني أدعوك بدعاية الإسلام، أسلم تسلم، وأسلم يؤتك الله أجرك مرتين، فان توليت فان عليك إثم أهل القبط، (يا أهل الكتاب تعالوا الى كلمة سواء بيننا وبينكم ألا نعبد الا الله ولا نشرك به شيئاً ولا يتخذ بعضنا بعضاً أرباباً من دون الله فان تولوا فقولوا اشهدوا بأنا مسلمون

English Translation:
A Letter to Vicegerent of Egypt, called Muqawqas:
“In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
From Mohammad, the slave of Allah and His Messenger to the Muqawqas, Vicegerent of Copts,
Peace be upon him who follows true guidance. Thereafter, I invite you to accept Islam. Therefore, if you want security, accept Islam. If you accept Islam, Allah shall reward you doubly. But if you refuse to do so, you will bear the sins of the Copts, (Say (O Mohammad): “O people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians), come to a word that is just between us and you, that we worship none but Allah, and that we associate no partners with Him, and that none of us shall take others as lords besides Allah. Then, if they turn away, say: Bear witness that we are Muslims”. [Aal Imran: 64].

de Mohammed esclave de dieu et son prophète à Mokchas le grand des Coptes,
que la paix soit sur ceux qui suivent le bon chemin que t'appelle à l'Islam, pour avoir le double de tes bontés, si tu refuse tu seras puni comme les Coptes [Dis: «Ô gens du Livre, venez à une parole commune entre nous et vous: que nous n’adorions qu’Allah, sans rien Lui associer, et que nous ne prenions point les uns les autres pour seigneurs en dehors d’Allah». Puis, s’ils tournent le dos, dites: «Soyez témoins que nous, nous sommes soumis».]
